Current Monollage
A monollage is a combination, or the nature of, combining a monoprint with mixed-media processes to construct imagery. In Nathan’s case, he works with multiple compositions on the front and back which plays a major role in the interpretation of the images created.
My current body of work, by identity my monollages, have evolved from a mixed process of printmaking and mixed media. The work evolves from responses to shapes, colors, and spatial compositions that create a story. What is unique to my work is dealing with multiple compositions on both the front and backsides. Depending on the material, the main surface of the image becomes transparent allowing for the front side’s composition to interact with the information revealed on the back. Allowing for a conversation with the viewer, my monollages explore figures and forms in an eerie atmospheric depth leaving an opened-ended narration that is neither right nor wrong.
